Project 365 Day 1
Well, Evan challenged me to do the project 365 thing with him. Project 365 is when you take a photo a day, no matter what. I am skeptical that I will be able to keep it up, but hopefully we can encourage each other to keep doing it. The point, of course, is not to just take any picture, but to challenge yourself artistically and creatively. Tonight I probably put a little too much time into it, but I wasn’t really sure what to take a picture of.
There is this guy on Flickr who I follow (link) who does awesome pictures with strobes (flashes). He recently did a project 365 with some ridiculous awesome outcomes so I used him as a bit of inspiration and did a self portrait (he did a lot of those too). My result is at the top of this post. Not every post I do with this project is going to be this long, but I figure I’ll try to start out strong.
Here is my setup:

Photoshop Magic
I just took this in front of a blank wall on a 10 second timer. The thing about my place is that there aren’t too many places with blank walls (that aren’t green or yellow) and enough space to take the picture. So, this is taken right by my front door, and the camera is down a short hallway in the kitchen. In order to have the camera properly focused, I left a light stand in the place where I would be standing. Here you can see that the light stand made it into the shot.

Me and My Partner
Speaking of other shots, I started out with just some boring self portrait shots but decided quickly they weren’t interesting enough. Like this one:

I hate posing for pictures.
Actually, i think that shot was taken with two umbrellas. I switched to the grid spot for the background flash in order to make it look a little more interesting. Anyway, I quickly donned my hood and got this Jabarie-esque shot.

The Grid Spot Makes a Much More Interesting Background
But after reviewing some photos I figured decided that it the brown hoodie on white background made for very boring colors so I threw on the Tron hoodie Gretch got me for my birthday. Colors were better but the hood itself is smaller, so it didn’t fall around my head in quite the same way. All in all, not a bad first day. Took a lot longer than I had hoped. I may take another hoodie picture tomorrow, this hoodie is supposed to glow in the dark…
